A system to abstract overland travel over long distances in PF2e for Kingmaker. The map is a hexagonal grid of 12-mile hexes, each dominated by one primary terrain type. Each hex is populated with different encounter types to offer a unique experience.
Each morning, your party gains several Hexploration activities depending on the speed of your slowest member. You can then use those to move around or interact with the hex map. The hexploration activities include making time to rest, dealing with encounters, and making camp.
Every time you expend a Hexploration activity, there is a chance for a random encounter.
The resolution of Hexploration is focused squarely on long-distance overland travel. If we get to the point where you are trying to track down an individual in a small forest area, we would switch out of Hexploration and use regular exploration rules for that area.
<aside> 🎲 Encounter rolls An encounter roll is when Sean rolls 1d6 to generate a random encounter, with encounters happening on a 6. Encounters generated in this way are not always combat, but they can be.
